Game Developer Kabam Expands

San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee announced today that Kabam, a fast-growing online gaming company, is opening a big new office South of Market and plans to hire 150 people to work in the city.

Kabam, a maker of massively multi-player online games targeting social networks, was founded in 2006 and is based in Redwood City.

Lee made the announcement at an annual San Francisco Business Times event that features the mayors of San Francisco and Oakland.

Kabam has grown since early 2010 from 25 employees to 275. It has offices in Beijing and San Francisco, where 30 people are already stationed.

Last month, Kabam announced that it had raised a $30 million Series C round of venture capital, and it has plans to increase its overall headcount to 750 during the coming year, with up to half of those people in San Francisco.

To accommodate the growth, Kabam just signed a lease for 25,000 square feet in the Orrick Building at 405 Howard Street. The company is hiring engineers, producers, artists and marketing personnel in San Francisco.

“Kabam’s new San Francisco studio office space reinforces what we already know - that San Francisco is the ideal location for tech companies looking to hire the world’s best technical and creative talent, “ Lee crowed.
