Foursquare Opening S.F. Office, Hiring

Foursquare, the hot New York City location-based services startup, has announced that it will open an office in San Francisco to recruit engineers who do not want to move to the Big Apple.

During the last year, Foursquare, which helped popularize the location "check-in" by which users can notify friends when they have visited a location or business, has gone from 100,000 users to 4.5 million users, according to a posting on the company blog.  The company has had staff working in the San Francisco office of Square, another high profile start-up founded by Twitter inventor Jack Dorsey that allows users to process credit card transactions over mobile phones. There are currently 10 job openings on its website, including one for a server side software developer in San Francisco.
