Bay Area sales tax recipts increase 1/3 in February

Bay Area cities and counties got a third more in sales tax receipts in February than they did in January, state figures show. What's more, sales tax revenue in February ticked up slightly from February 2009 as well.

The portion of sales taxes that California sends to local jurisdictions totaled $73,707,988 in February for Bay Area cities and counties from Santa Clara County in the south the Napa County in the north.

San Francisco got $9,454,400 in February, exactly 1/3 more than in January but 12.2 percent less in February 2009

 

California looses manufacturing jobs

California lost 5 percent, or 79,000, of its industrial jobs between February 2009 and February 2010, according to a trade report.

Northern California lost 3.1 percent, or 22,042, of its jobs to end at 571,348, MNI said. San Jose, where a Rockwell Collins factory closed, lost 8.6 percent of its factory jobs and ended the 12 month period with 53,334 industrial workers. Santa Clara lost 2.7 percent of its industrial jobs to end with 37,384.

MNI, based in Evanston, Ill., pointed to Telsa Motors as a bit of good news for the state, as the carmaker plans to build a factory in Palo Alto to make parts for its electric cars.
