Bay Area consumers still holding back
Bay Area consumers are keeping their wallets closed, resulting in lower sales tax revenue going to cities and counties in the region.
Figures for March, April and May from the state Franchise Tax Board show the three-month average of sales tax receipts fell in each of the nine Bay Area counties except Solano, compared with the February-through-April period.
In San Francisco, sales fell 4.66 percent in the latest three months compared with the month-earlier period. But the latest period's sales were 4.85 higher than during the same three months in 2009.
