AT&T invests $1.1 billion

Phone company AT&T Inc. invested $1.1 billion in wireless and wire networks in California in the first half of the year.

About $425 million of that went into the company’s wireless network in the state.

The Dallas company (NYSE: T) is the carrier for Apple Inc.’s (NASDAQ: AAPL) popular iPhone. It added nearly 100 cell sites in the state, plus 25 antennas in “high-traffic areas.”

It also upgraded 35 of its cell sites to its fastest “3G” level.

AT&T plans to invest $18 billion to $19 billion around the country this year.

The company’s total operating revenue was $61.3 billion in the first half of 2010. From that, it made a profit of $6.66 billion.

 SFCED statistics show that San Francisco is rated second in the nation for having the most wireless access in the nation.  These investments show positive opportunities for streamlining business efficiency and making San Francisco an even more business friendly environment in the very near future
