Venture capitalists' confidence up a little

For the first time in more than a year, confidence among local venture capitalists has crept upward, indicating that economic recovery might be in sight - or at least that the economy is deteriorating less quickly.

On a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being highly confident, venture capitalists weighed in at 3.03 last quarter, according to Mark Cannice, who teaches entrepreneurship at the University of San Francisco. That's up from a five-year low of 2.77, and it breaks a five-quarter slide.
