Stanford Plans $100 Million Energy Institute

The new $100 million Precourt Institute for Energy will focus on a variety of renewable energy projects such as developing low cost solar cells, more energy efficient technology, and greenhouse gas prevention. The new institute is funded by Stanford alumni with $50 million donated from Jay Precourt and $40 million from Thomas Steyer and his wife Kat Taylor. Additional support came from Douglas Kimmelman, a senior partner at Energy Capital Partners, Michael Ruffatto, president of North American Power Group and the Schmidt Family Foundation.
