Five new biotech companies moving to SF
New biotech initiative in SF
Mayor of San Francisco Gavin Newsom announced last Wednesday that five new biotech companies are moving to Mission Bay San Francisco. Among these companies are: Carmot Therapeutics, CV Ingenuity, Gemmus Pharma, Osprey Pharmaceuticals, and Solidus Biosciences. The companies will be located in FibroGen building in Mission Bay to support small life sciences companies including the institute's onsite technology incubator- QB3 Garage. QB3 Garage rents 120 feet square feet laboratory space to companies. The city through the Office of Economic and Workforce Development and QB3 will market the incubator network and provide support to entrepreneurs by organizing seminars on how to start and do businesses in the city, help with tax incentives, and provide other support.
As Mayor Newsom said the decision to move to San Francisco "is further evidence that the fundamentals for Mission Bay remain strong - proximity to UCSF, access to world-class research institutes like QB3 and Gladstone; a $1.6 UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay set to begin construction next year and unparalleled access to top talent -all in the heart of a truly global city."
According to Dennis Conaghan, Executive Director of the San Francisco Center for Economic Development "this is an important milestone in realizing the next generation of growth at Mission Bay, and insuring that San Francisco continues to attract and retain the best scientific minds in America, if not the world."
In order to grow businesses of the new startups, the companies will receive membership from the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce to connect them with diverse companies in the Bay Area, have access to networking services and public policy advocacy.
