Nektar moves its headquarters to SF Mission Bay

A San Carlo-based Nektar Therapeutics, Inc. will move its headquarters and 150 employees by August 1st next year to San Francisco.  The company will take 102,283 square feet office building located across the street from UCSF's life science Mission Bay campus.  Nektar's rent will be free for the first four years of the 10-years sublease deal and will bring saving in the amount of $15 million. Nektar also will invest $15 million in biology and chemistry lab equipment.

The Nektar's deal is the second-largest lease in San Francisco this year after another deal of taking 137,000 square feet in SF Mission Bay by Zynga.

According to Howard Robin, President and CEO of Nektar, the decision was fairly easy because Mission Bay was developed with intention to become the premier biotech center in the US.
