Genentech to build new S.S.F. office building

Genentech has announced that it will build a third office building on its South San Francisco campus.

Erich Hunziker, deputy head of the executive committee of parent company Roche AG, said at the J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference this morning that Genentech would start construction of the building this year. Hunziker did not know how large the building would be and did not say how much it would cost, but he indicated that it would be roughly on par with two other office buildings on the campus.

Hunziker also said that consolidation of Roche operations in the United States and Genentech operations — which included shuttering an R&D site in Palo Alto, many back-office operations in New Jersey and moving many of those jobs to South San Francisco — has cut $1 billion in costs.
