Foreclosures and Defaults up in 2008

According to a new report from Default Research, Inc., foreclosure activity, which includes notices of defaults and notices of trustee sales, reached 525,356 in 15 California counties in 2008. The annual total climbed 180% to 85,381 in the Bay Area counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco, and Solano. Santa Clara County had the largest increase in foreclosure activity among the 15 counties at 234%, while Los Angeles County had the highest number of foreclosures at 122,408.
