Cathedral Hill Hotel to close in October

California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC) which acquired the property of Cathedral Hill Hotel has decided to close operation of the hotel. CPMC initially planned to turn the hotel into a $2.5 billion hospital with 550 beds but eventually it will close it on October 31. The 50-year-old hotel that is managed by Joie de Vivre Hospitality on behalf of CPMC would need a huge cash injection in repairs and renovations to stay competitive according to Kevin McCormack, a spokesman for CPMC, that's why the decision needed to be made possibly soon to avoid any longer losses. The final hospital plans will be presented to the San Francisco Health Commission by CPMC on Tuesday and then to the city Planning Commission.
