Bay Area sales rise again; median price up slightly over March
Bay Area home sales climbed 13.1% in April from a year ago and median price, which was down 41.3 percent from a year ago, rose slightly above the last month for the first time since fall 2007. The median price for the Bay Area counties are as follows: San Francisco- $628,500, Alameda- $289,197, Contra Costa- $225,000, Marin- $585,000, Napa- $315,000, Santa Clara- $405,000, San Mateo- $520,000, Solano- $180,000, and Sonoma- $290,000.
Bay Area home sales were the second-lowest for April since 1995 with a total sale of 7,139 new and resale housed and condos, 12.9 percent up from 6,325 in March.
Foreclosure home sales accounted for 47.7 percent of all homes that resold last month in the Bay Area, 50.2 percent down from March and 52 percent in February.
In April, 22 percent of the Bay Area's home sales financed more than $417.000 mortgages, more than 60 percent before the credit fallen in late summer 2007. Bay Area buyers paid $1,277 for the mortgage, $1,245 more than in March and $2,463 down from a year ago.
