Bay Area home sales and median price rise in June
In June, Bay Area home prices rose to the highest level in nearly three years and the median price for homes increased the third straight month in a row. Bay Area home sales climbed 20.4% in June from a year ago and 16.1 percent from last month according to San Diego research firm MDA DataQuick. The median price in the nine-county Bay Area was $352,000 in June, up 3.1% percent from last month and down 27.4% from June 2008.
The median price for the Bay Area counties are as follows: San Francisco- $635,000, Alameda- $335,000, Contra Costa- $250,000, Marin- $710,000, Napa- $355,000, Santa Clara- $445,000, San Mateo- $565,500, Solano- $185,000, and Sonoma- $300,000.
Foreclosure home sales accounted for 37.3 percent of all homes that resold last month in the Bay Area, 40.5 percent from last month and the lowest level since August 2008.
Bay Area buyers paid $1,585 for the mortgage, $1,443 more than in May and $2,407 less from a year ago.
