Bay Area home sales and median price top last year again
In November, median price and sales in the Bay Area noted a gain from a year ago. Bay Area home sales climbed 19.5 percent last month but went down 13.3 percent from the previous month, according to MDA DataQuick. The median price in the nine-county Bay Area was $387,000 in November, down 0.8 percent in October but up 10.6 percent in November 2008.
The median price for the Bay Area counties are as follows: San Francisco- $650,000, Alameda- $363,000, Contra Costa- $290,000, Marin- $600,000, Napa- $380,750, Santa Clara- $494,500, San Mateo- $587,550, Solano- $220,000, and Sonoma- $325,050.
Foreclosure home sales accounted for 32.5 percent of all homes that resold last month in the Bay Area, up 31.3 percent in October but down from 46.8 percent in November 2008.
Bay Area buyers paid $1,639 for the mortgage last month, down from $1,665 in October and $1,695 in November 2008.
