Bay Area groups win a third of CIRM grants

California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) approved grants last Wednesday to four Bay Area institutions including Stanford University ($5.8 million), BioTime, Inc of Alameda ($4.7 million), the J. David Gladstone Institutes in San Francisco ($1.3 million), The Parkinson's Institute in Sunnyvale ($3.8 million), and UC Davis ($6.9 million) accounting in total of $22.5 million grants. The grants are meant to lead to a drug development as well as to find potentially new therapies to better cure diseases.
